Unfortunately we have to inform you that due to the Dutch Government rules to prevent the spread of COVID-19, it is currently not possible to continue our event on the scheduled date.

Changes to the healthcare systems over the last few years have made market access, pricing and reimbursement critical in driving prescriptions and ultimately sales revenue. In addition to structural changes in the healthcare systems, the dynamics of patients, healthcare policy makers and payer behaviour have altered significantly. The environment is becoming more complex, with a significant shift in the relative importance and roles of key stakeholder groups.

In 2021, two editions of the Venture Challenge took place: in the summer and in the fall. Ten innovative Life Sciences & Health startups participated in the programme. The teams worked on shaping their value propositions, vision and competitive differentiation to translate their idea into a solid business case. The winner of both editions will be announced during the Dutch Life Science Conference.

Developing and commercializing a new life sciences product or service requires meticulous research, planning, strategy and management. It often encompasses different goals than research and grant funding. There are several necessary steps, and a strategy needs to be well defined in order to be successful. Product development requires input from and between various groups within a company and, for academia, outside entities.

For healthcare products that require clinical studies to support licensing or regulatory clearance the execution of the clinical plan is the most critical stage in the product development process of a company. For young companies the success of a clinical study is very crucial and determines if the company is able to continue its product development program and eventually get market approval by the regulatory organisations such as the FDA and EMA.

This year’s winners of the Venture Challenge were uniquely announced in front of an online audience at the Dutch Life Sciences Conference. The proud winner of the fall edition is Slam Orthopedic. The innovative startup SLAM Orthopedic has developed an automated, accurate and fast bore depth measurement system for bone fractures.
